Here’s a glimpse into how our dispatch and operations stay connected.

Fleet Coordination: Ensuring Uptime

Dispatch: “Volume Concrete Dispatch, calling all units. Standard operational status check. Let’s hear your 10-20 and current load status. We’re monitoring weather patterns for the southern sector.”
10-20: Request for location.
Unit 3 (Primary Mixer): “Dispatch, this is Unit 3. We’ve just completed the pour at the Elm Street site. Drums are clean, and we’re heading back to the yard. Load was 100% on spec. Status is 10-8.”
10-8: In Service / On the road, available for the next assignment.
Dispatch: “Copy that, Unit 3. Good job on the Elm Street pour. Glad to hear the load was 100% on spec. Dispatch to Unit 3-B.”
Unit 3-B (Backup Mixer): “Unit 3-B responding. We’re staged and ready, depot-side. Primary is handling the current demand smoothly. We’re here for any surge or unexpected requirements. My 10-20 is the main yard.”
10-20: Location (here implying the depot). “Staged and ready” means prepared to deploy instantly.
Dispatch: “Affirmative, Unit 3-B. That’s the readiness we depend on. Keep your ears open. Dispatch to Unit 5.”
Unit 5 (Primary Mixer): “Dispatch, Unit 5. We’re on the highway, heading to Site Delta. Smooth sailing, minimal traffic. Load is secure and ready for transfer. 10-4 on the Southern sector weather.”
10-4: Understood / Affirmative.
Dispatch: “10-4, Unit 5. Keep it in the hammer lane when traffic allows, but stay safe. We have Unit 6 Primary, and Unit 6-B (Backup) on standby at the northern distribution point. No asset downtime today. We’re pushing for 100% uptime.”
“Keep it in the hammer lane”: Drive in the left/fast lane when safe. “100% uptime”: signifies zero operational interruption.
Unit 6 (Primary Mixer): “Dispatch, Unit 6. We’re on track for Site Echo. No issues to report. Engine’s running clean, fuel levels are good. We’re 10-9 with progress.”
10-9: Can mean “Repeat” or, in broader context, “progress report” or “everything’s fine.” Here, it implies a positive progress update.
Dispatch: “Glad to hear it, Unit 6. Maintain course. And to all units: our redundancy systems are fully engaged, ensuring zero disruption to your routes or our dispatch coordination. This is Volume Concrete’s standard operating procedure. Stay safe and keep those mixers turning.”
